The Mother’s Day holiday is fast approaching and even though it’s the second most popular gift giving holiday after Christmas in the U.S. , adult children and husbands are notorious for waiting until the last minute to get Mom that special gift. Don’t judge! Save them from mediocre gift giving. After all, B&B’s can provide a luxurious escape from Mom’s daily routine.

While it may be too late for the procrastinators to book a room with you this weekend, they could pair up a nice bottle of wine, bouquet of flowers, or box of chocolates with a gift certificate for a future visit at your inn. If you offer gift certificates on your inn’s website, you’re half way there. Now you just have to engage your potential guests and generate interest. Here are three ways to do that:


  1. Create a series of social media posts that include photo of a bottle of wine or bouquet of flowers. The title might say: ‘ Looking for a last minute Mother’s Day gift where she can enjoy that bottle of wine? Add a gift certificate to our inn.’ Point them to a booking gift certificate that they can purchase on your website along with a printable pdf that they can put in an envelope and hand to Mom.
  2. Hold a Facebook Contest. Invite fans to post a picture of themselves with their Mom along with their favorite Mom sayings. The winner might get a free gift certificate, or a free amenity when they purchase a gift certificate. Pick a winner at random, or pick the one with the most ‘Likes’ and comments.
  3. If you have a small budget, you can boost your posts to ensure that all of your followers and their friends see it in their timelines rather than the one out of ten followers who see your posts due to the new FaceBook algorithm changes.


Of course, the above tips will work as an email campaign as well. Simply create a series of emails rather than Facebook posts. With a little ingenuity, you can solve your guest’s gift giving problem and generate future bookings at the same time.
